A Fall Downtown Pittsburgh Rooftop Wedding

Kaley & Stephen's Love Story

Kaley and Stephen are far from ordinary. They met during an alcohol-induced party night on a street corner in New York city, and she put her number in his phone under "Queen of Canada". Even though they were from different countries (She's American, he's Canadian), nothing could keep them apart for long.

I met Kaley after she had moved to Toronto to be with Stephen. They adopted an elderly cat, lovingly named "Spunky" to live with them in their downtown loft apartment (you can spot him during our extended engagement session here). Kaley's bubbly personality and Stephen's quiet confidence drew me in straight away. Their energy is truly infectious & their complete adoration for each other was immediately clear. They wanted their wedding to reflect who they are as a couple, but they were not about to stick to a typical wedding script. First of all, they were already technically married. He didn't want groomsmen, she definitely wanted bridesmaids. And they did not want to pay for a sit-down meal, opting for an open bar, passed hors d'ouvres and a live band to play and party all night instead. I was immediately SO PUMPED for all of this.

So, I excitedly flew to Pittsburgh to photograph their wedding. They got ready and had their ceremony at the Kimpton Monaco Hotel, which had the prettiest window light, coolest decor and THE MOST STUNNING cityscape views from their rooftop ceremony space. Their ceremony was one of my favourites of the year so far. Led by Stephen's dad, he reminisced the couple's journey in a way that only a father can, supplemented by readings from two bridesmaids and Kaley's mom, who was tearful the entire time she was speaking. Their vows to each other gave me literal goosebumps, and all friends and family laughed while wiping away happy tears for the gorgeous couple.

After the ceremony, there was a quick cocktail hour with plenty of time to take family & bridal party photos, after which we toured pretty much ALL OF PITTSBURGH for Kaley & Stephen's photos. Kaley was so excited to show me her home town and document some stunning photos of the two of them all across the city. We walked around downtown, went to one of their signature yellow bridges (where we were almost hit by a pick-up truck!), toured Schenley park and visited a musem with the most gorgeous stone columns! We then grabbed a bite to eat and a quick coffee at one of their favourite pizza places - Mercurio's.

We concluded the night by getting silly and dancing until our feet ached at Ace Hotel with allll their family and friends, some who have traveled as far as from Europe. All to the soundtrack of a kick-ass live band (I LOVE live bands!!!!).

Thank you SO MUCH Kaley & Stephen! For being a fun and down-to earth couple that I can truly call my friends. You guys are extra-ordinary!
