Downtown Toronto weddings are secretly one of my favourite things. Yes, there’s not a whole lot of greenery or dramatic nature landscapes around but the city is an amazing backdrop all on its own, you just have to embrace the busy-ness of downtown – there will always be cars, cyclists & pedestrians in your photographs, and that’s OK.

Getting ready less than a block away from the venue, Michelle had the suite at Hilton Downtown Toronto, which boasted these GORGEOUS huge windows with a cityscape backdrop. Brides to be – if you’re getting ready in a hotel room, make sure it has BIG windows & muted decor for the most beautiful getting ready photographs.

My favourite memory from this wedding was the mother of the bride, Theresa, asking me to photograph her rosary beads. She explained that they had been in her family for many years and they would always pray on them for no rain on a wedding day. And yes, it worked beautifully! The sun was shining all afternoon.

I managed to scout out a small courtyard for their first look that was right behind the hotel. This gave us a little bit of privacy and some pretty downtown portraits.

Everything about this wedding was just like Michelle & Matt – wonderfully unassuming. They wanted their wedding to be super low key, so they opted to have their ceremony & reception at the Fifth Bar & Grill, which is smack dab in the middle of one of the busiest areas of Toronto. The quirky loft vibes lended to the warm and vibrant dinner conversations to create a homey atmosphere. It felt like we were all at a dinner party with the closest & dearest of M&Ms friends.

Michelle & Matt – thank you so much for sharing your special day with me, & trusting me to photograph you in the middle of one of the busiest streets in Toronto!
